With Valentine’s Day coming up, I figured that it was a good time to post some recommendations on where to shop for your boudoir session.

As you are planning your boudoir session, not everyone will go the traditional ‘lingerie route’. I have had some amazing sessions in pajamas, a fiance’s button down shirt, or just white sheets. What’s most important is that you’re in something you LOVE and feel confident in.

There are, though, some GREAT ligerie sites out there in the interwebs right now. These definitely range in pricing from moderate to extremely NOT moderate…. I’m including a range in my links below.

In general, I suggest sticking with something that fits your body well, colors that are softer or are neutrals (black, white, ivory, nude, etc), and avaoiding any bold patterns/colors. Some people can really pull off a bold color beautifully, but generally speaking I feel these photos look best when the lingerie is secondary to the subject and they do not distract from your face/assets… Anything textural definitely adds soft visual interest so I tend to be drawn to lots of lace items for boudoir sessions. If you are planning a session and it is NOT bridal, don’t be scared of the bridal lingerie section of websites! This usually just means lots of white + ivory, which are fantastic shades for lingerie in my natural light studio.

I feel both encouraged and also embarassed that these clients have seen me at my worst, and yet still chose me as thier wedding photographer. Anthony has seen me at my worst-he was the lucky man who needed to tell me over the phone that my truck needed a new engine. During wedding season. Translation: THOUSANDS of dollars, rental car fees (which his shop graciously ended up reimbursing me for), and extreme stress during an already crazy time for me. I am sure that in receiving this news, I was not the nicest human being to the bearer of such news.

Regardless, when it came up in conversation while I was waiting at the shop for my truck that I was a wedding photographer, he immediately sent my website over to his fiance Christine. Shortly after, my poor sickly truck’s massive repair bill had all been worth it because I had gained two of the best clients. These two have the best chemistry. The entire session was spent talking and laughing. These guys are perfect for one another, and I can’t wait for their wedding to come up this April.

Chrystine and Vince are my kind of people. When a bride quotes Cookie Monster in her vows, I fall in love with you. Throw in the fact that they were the most laid back, easy going couple , were willing to do anything for a good photo, and a gorgeous all lace gown for good measure.

“Sometimes me think, what is love,
and then me think love is what last cookie is for.
Me give up the last cookie for you.’

Thanks for sharing your day, you two 🙂

Quite a while back I posted the first half of Channon’s maternity boudoir session in the studio. I had intended on posting part two, but due to wedding season (or… rather, wedding 3/4 of a year if you are in CA where it is eternally wedding season…) things got busy and it never made its way up to the blog.

For part two, we went to Rancho San Antonio for some outdoor shots in the sunlight.

When I first met with Phoebe and Mike, I knew that they were a good fit for me immediately. These two are so easy to talk to- sweet, creative, and thoughtful. Their love for vintage anything, music, and all things DIY played a huge role in their wedding which in conjunction with their venue- the beautiful Beltane Ranch (which is now one of my favorite wedding venues)-they created a truly unique day which expressed who they are as a couple.

So.many. deatils! The groom made the farm tables for the reception. HE MADE THEM. From freaking wood and bolts, hand stained and sanded. The love teepee was handmade so guests could have a picture snapped inside, bunting and garland was handmade, along with the wooden signage. Phoebe and Mike, both being musicians, treated the guests to several songs as the sun went down. Throw in two of my favorite wedding vendors- Chestnut and Vine (florals) and Kathleen Tinney (hair/makeup), and you have one great day.
